SERVICE TECHNICIAN APPRENTICE

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF
THE JOB
·
The ideal candidate for this position would be a
graduate of a HVAC technical school or program, and have a basic understand of
the following:
- Mechanical
refrigeration
- Electricity
- Combustion
& venting
- Air
distribution systems
- Oil
burners
- Gas
burners
- Heat
pumps
·
Must
understand and adhere to all safety rules and programs.
·
Will
obtain all required EPA/CFC certifications.
·
Initial
training will include company culture, customer relations, job requirements and
product awareness.
·
Must
undergo extensive training by helping with preventive maintenance calls,
installations, and service calls. This
training will be both on-the-job and classroom training. Apprentice technicians will ride along with
a more experienced technician until ready to be promoted to the Service Level I
position.
·
After
initial training, Apprentice must know basics of customer courtesies, service
reports, time cards and radio procedure.
·
Must
be available to attend and successfully complete all training programs as designated
by the Service Leader. These programs
may be after normal work hours and they may require overnight travel.
·
Will
understand refrigeration gauges, ammeter, ohmmeter and leak detector, and the
correct use of each.
·
Will
be able to describe the basic functions of heating and air conditioning
systems.
·
Apprentice
will learn the proper method of performing performance tune-ups and efficiency
testing on all types of residential heating and cooling equipment.
·
Must
be aware of customer involvement and building value in the tuneup
procedure and be able to renew Maintenance Service Agreements.
SERVICE TECHNICIAN APPRENTICE
·
Must
be able to effectively communicate with the customer and have an understanding
of their needs and desires.
·
Must display a clean, professional image in all areas,
including personal appearance.
·
Apprentice will be responsible for purchasing their own
hand tools. A recommended tool list
shall be provided by the Service Leader.
·
An Apprentice will always be in the company of a more
experienced Service Technician while performing work in a customer's residence.
·
Will support the Commitment to Excellence Program.
·
All other duties as assigned.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
· Must
be able to work independently and without regular supervision.
· Must
be able to learn and effectively use, operate, and repair machinery and tools.
· Must
be able to read, write, and speak English
· Must
have good basic math skills. Be able to
read a tape measure.
· Must
have good public relations skills.
· Must
be available and dependable for flexible scheduling of work hours, including on
call overtime, and holidays.
· Must
be highly accurate in performing the duties of this job.
· Must
be willing to perform other duties.
WORK CONTEXT:
·
Requires lifting up to 75 lbs., the ability to bend,
stretch, stoop, kneel, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs. Must be able to stand in one place for long
periods of time.
·
Requires working on ladders.
·
Requires working indoors and outdoors in varied
environmental conditions.
·
Requires the ability to quickly move your hand, your
hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or
assemble objects.
·
Requires tact and the ability to communicate with
customers, employees, supervisors, and clients.
